Scott Matthews @ Bunkers 10/4/07

scott matthews

Imagine American Gregg Allman and Englishman Nick Drake strolling into Minneapolis Bunkers Bar and sitting on the stage to play a few songs together and you get an idea of what talented Wolverhampton native Scott Matthews sounds like. Singing solo and acoustic for over seventy minutes, Scott performed mostly songs from his release “Passing Stranger” to an attentive, quiet audience. He was winner of this year’s prestigious UK Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for “Elusive”. This is Scott’s very first American tour, he said he was next heading towards Denver and the West Coast, then opening for Rufus Wainwright across Scotland and England. Riveting live performer with a haunting voice, he deserves to play a venue like the Varsity Theater the next time he returns to Minneapolis , let’s hope that is soon.

Nice review, Craig. I'm glad the Bunker's audience gave this guy the attention he deserves. Can't get over how much his voice sounds like Jeff Buckley, esp. on 'Elusive.' Brody, don't forget to include Liars on your concert list, they are opening for Interpol and are going to be fantastic.
