Varttina @ The Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis

I was blown away and brought to heaven for this show.. Varttina, one of the best bands in the world, is the only band from Finland I've listened too.. They brought 9 people on the stage and put a amazing act on display.. 3 words come to mind (for those of you who are big into the britpop scene), The Pippetes, The Go Team!, and the movie Snatch.. With a classic mafia appearance from the backing band, they were no mob and in fact a bunch of musical geniuses. The instrumentation, consisted of original instruments from Finland, violins, accordions, hollow guitars, clarinet, you name it they played it.. From Folk, to Rock, to even a little Soul this band displayed confidence to a stellar crowd.. Varttina has a rich tradition, historic past, and most importantly show their fans and musicians that work pays off.. This band looked like they've been playing for 20 years, and still show how much fun they like to have.. Lets just hope next time they come to the Cedar they take away the chairs so thier's room to jump around and dance.. Please come to Nordic Roots Festival!!!! Until next time.. Thank you Varttina!!! Come back soon and will play tennis! -Brody

Fantastic show, even better than their last performance at Nordic Roots Festival a few years ago.

Their intricate female folk singer vocals and backing support does give one to pause and reflect, to consider how inferior most current indie and pop singers are - both male and female - compared to these
world class performers.
