Redman and the Rythm Roots Allstars @ The Varsity
After watching a mini break dancing contest, a magic show, and a jam session by the infamous DJ Hall out of L.A the band jumped on. Opening the night was the Rythm Roots Allstars, also straight out of L.A. These guys have a lot of drums and a lot of fun. They played a lot of mambo tunes, your basic island feel with all the brass and drums. The Band stayed on stage and backed up none other than The Man of the House.
Moving onto the star of the night, Redman as you know is is one of the lead vocals in the Wu-Tang Clan, most of you are familiar with Method Man. Red and Meth stared in the comedy How High, and have been droppin beats on the radio's since 96. He came out smoking while singing the classic track pick up some weed. He brought out a female artist and another rapper alongside. He gave a lot of props to Minneapolis for the great crowd, sold out show, and all the work done by scion to set up his tour. No crowd surfing by the comedian/artist, but he waved his arms and got the crowd moving. He is one of the best solo rapers of my time, and brought back a lot of great memories from high school. As some of you know I listened to rap for about 3 years and then got turned over to British Rock. I think my soul side is coming back, and I really look forward to checking out the Roots(who Redman covered). Redman is no 2pac but this man delivers a show and has a great group of guys to work with!!!! Lets hope he comes back with the whole WuTang clan, their new album is due out this spring/summer. Check out some of the videos from the show below.
