Rilo Kiley @ First Ave. Friday Sep. 14th
What a show!!!! Sold Out, including two extra tickets to me and the Rock N Roll Star who thought he was on the guest list. No worries, the show was a riot. The downfall to the show were two poor/mediocre openers. Luckily I don't even remember the first bands name, the only thing I remember is they sounded like Yeah Yeah Yeahs on crack. And Johnathan Rice was a burned out Jakob Dylan, from the Wallflowers.
But luckily the night was saved thanks to a stunning red head named Jenny Lewis. Her voice echoed through the walls at first ave, especially during "Close Call", my favorite tune from the new record "Under The Blacklight". I couldn't tell if she used crest white stripes or if she had glow in the dark teeth when the lights went down. Everything shined from her teeth to her tight sparkling silver pants.
Blake Sennett also took center stage strumming away at his guitar and also providing some above average vocals. The breakup between Blake and Jenny has helped bring this band even closer. Putting together their forth album, Rilo Kiley's band continues to get better. I'm not a big fan of Jenny's solo work, nor am into Emily Haines solo work. But when those two get together with their bands, they really shine. With a band you just have more energy and more variety. If your a solo artist get in a band!!!!! Guy or Girl, doesn't matter.
