Looper - Impossible Things

Hi, this is Vu. I write a daily music blog with fellow music fans, Cristina and Lara over at successlessness.vox.com. I'll be randomly stopping by to post some reviews (mostly about forgotten and semi-obscure bands).

  • Today's feature is Looper. Formed by ex-Belle & Sebastian bassist, Stuart David and his wife, Karn in the late 90s, they first released a 7" called "Impossible Things" under Sub Pop's Singles club (which was subscription-only).

Three albums and a handful of singles followed and, currently, Looper, is giving away music on their official website www.looperama.com.

"Impossible Things" tells the story about how Stuart and Karn met and how they fell in love. As you can see from these two versions of Impossible Things, that the second mix (in my opinion) is the better of the two.

    Excerpt from the song:

And then life began to happen to them; their separate lives in their separate cities. But although they wrote a little less often they wrote still just as long, about their lives, and how the world was coming into their world. And they kept going till they realized they'd been writing for seven years.

If you like Looper, they have a relatively small discography, so it's not too difficult to track them down. They are all available in CD format, with the exception of the first 7" and the later MP3 Files (which are supposed to be collected in a nice box set).
