Matt Kearney on Halloween @ The Varsity...

Can you say Chris Martin??? Just a slight compliment for this up and coming star... I'm not selling out don't worry but I don't care how big this guy gets or how big coldplay gets. I love this style of music, and good vocals and hard work can carry you a long way... Matt proved that last night on Halloween with a packed house of costumes and skeletons.. He dedicated a lot of songs to Tom Petty and of course the legendary Johnny Cash.. You can't go wrong when you talk about those guys.... He's definitely is the ladies man when he was trying to get sympathy from all the good looking girls in the crowd.. He talked about being alone of valentines day and how he is still searching for the right one.. All and all this man can sing, perform, and has the drive to improve his skills. He ranges on piano and on guitar and lets his vocals lead the way... He has found the style that best fits his audience. If he adds a little pace and a little more style, he could really hit the Bigs..

More pics up soon... For Now check out my other concert pics on My Flickr Page.

I'll be at Placebo tonight at the Fineline!!!! Don't see She wants Revenge thier horrible thier opening for Placebo!!!!

Phase 2- Moonrats/Pretty Girls Make Graves...

Walking into this show I was just excited to hear some different sound. And boy did I ever Moonrats lead singer went a little Hendrix on guitar while spitting out some pretty good vocals. The lead singer was originally from Pretty Girls Make Graves. They have an E.P. that is phenomenal. Very loud guitar with drums, keys, and a little female backing vocals...
Pretty Girls Make Graves had your classic Be your own pet, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metric sound but definetly with a twist. The vocals were very silent with all of the heavy guitar and keys surrounding the set... The lead guitarist had quite the sound system set up, with about 10 different foot pedals.. I went all over the place to stand at this show to really get a different sound from these guys. Great energy just a different look and a little better vocals...

Phase 1- Sound Team/Sparta @ The Fineline

With a local opener that sounded just like the Incubus, the night kicked off with a radio buzz pop sound. I'm not super into that style, but for being local and sounded almost as good as that late 90's incubus sound, they were pretty good. Sound Team was once again amazing. I've now seen them 3 times in the last year, definitely not complaining. They are the #1 college band from Austin Texas, this six piece has been talked about through the blogs and college radio for a long time. They had one of the best EP's in (Work) I've listened too in a long time. They have the potential to have the best experimental sound mixed in with a Stereophonics tone. So much more will come out of this band, with more instrumental in their set as the only advice I have for this bunch.. And of course, you have Sparta the other break off of At the Drive in.. For those of you who don't know At the Drive in was one of the biggest rock bands in the 90's and have influenced most of today's alternative scene. The band broke up a while ago and have formed two bands, Sparta and The Mars Volta. I'd say the band members are doing just fine. Sparta reminded me a lot like At the drive in with a little less variety.. They had a geniune rock sound but again, was my taste about 5 years ago... I do love Sparta though and this band has some dedicated fans that came down from Canada, Wisconsin, and Iowa.... I decided to take off after about 5 songs so I don't want to get to indepth with these guys... If you like At the Drive in these guys are great!!!!! Pics to come up shortly...
